Questions Every Family Asks

Frequently asked questions

A few of the most common questions we hear from Kenyan families navigating maternal wellness and home care.

How much does Legacy Care Africa cost?

Pricing depends on the type of care, hours required, and complexity of the case. Uzazi maternal services start with prenatal consultations and scale to full birth and postpartum packages. Nyumbani home care is priced by hourly visits, daily live-in shifts, or monthly care plans. Every family receives a clear, written quote before any care begins โ€” no surprises, no hidden fees. Book a free consultation and we'll walk you through what your situation will look like.

How does payment work โ€” do families pay privately?

At this time, all care under Uzazi and Nyumbani is private pay. We provide detailed invoices, care plans, and care-record documentation so families can keep clear records for their own planning. Our care coordinator will walk you through package options, scheduling, and pricing during your consultation so there are no surprises.

How do you vet and train your caregivers?

Every Uzazi and Nyumbani caregiver is fully vetted before they ever meet a family. That includes background and police checks, verification of professional credentials (KMPDC, nursing council, doula certification as applicable), a thorough competency interview, and reference checks with previous employers. Once onboarded, caregivers complete ongoing training in trauma-informed care, dementia support, infection prevention, and warm family communication โ€” refreshed at least quarterly.

What's the difference between Uzazi and Nyumbani โ€” and how do I know which I need?

Uzazi Wellness Care serves women through pregnancy, birth, the postpartum window, and women's wellness more broadly โ€” prenatal visits, doula support, lactation, postpartum nurses, perinatal mental health. Nyumbani Support Solutions serves aging parents, adults recovering from surgery, people with chronic conditions, and families navigating dementia, autism, or end-of-life care โ€” at home. If both seasons are happening at once (a new baby and an aging grandparent under the same roof), Legacy Care Africa coordinates a single combined care plan across both subsidiaries.

Where in Kenya do you operate?

We are headquartered in Nairobi and serve families across Kenya. Coverage varies slightly by service โ€” some live-in placements and equipment rentals are easier in the major metros โ€” but we can usually arrange visits, telehealth consultations, or short-term placements in most regions. The fastest way to confirm coverage for your specific area is a quick call with our care coordinator.

How quickly can care start?

For non-urgent Uzazi prenatal or Nyumbani planning consultations, we typically respond within one business day and can begin care within 3โ€“5 days. For urgent post-discharge needs (a parent coming home from hospital, a sudden change in condition), we can often arrange a nurse, caregiver, or equipment delivery within 24โ€“48 hours. Active clients have access to a 24/7 on-call line.

Is everything confidential?

Yes. Every consultation, care plan, and care record is treated with strict confidentiality. We comply with the Kenya Data Protection Act 2019 and follow GDPR-aligned best practices. Information is shared only with caregivers directly involved in your family's care, and never with third parties without your written consent.

Can I cancel or change my care plan?

Yes. Most care plans can be paused, scaled, or cancelled with reasonable notice โ€” typically 7 days for ongoing in-home care, less for shorter engagements. Specific terms are written into your care agreement, and our coordinator will walk through them with you before you sign anything.
